MOMU Boutique Sparks Bold Style and Creative Expression

Fashion, accessories, and home décor allow you to express yourself in a unique way. What better way to do that than with curated items that support local artists? MOMU, a boutique based in downtown Salt Lake City, aims to bring joy and inspire creativity, while building community through style.
In partnership with the Women’s Business Center of Utah, Cyprus Credit Union awarded MOMU with a $1,000 grant. The Women’s Business Center of Utah empowers women-owned businesses throughout the state by providing tools, resources, and guidance so they won’t have to build their business alone.
Founder and educator-turned-shopkeeper Rebecca Yund set out to share their passion with others and create a space that’s more than a retail store, but also a place where people of all walks of life can gather, support each other, and discover emerging artists.
“MOMU stands out by offering a highly curated selection of bold, art-driven clothing, accessories, and home goods from independent designers—items customers can’t find anywhere else in Salt Lake City.”
And they’ve grown very fast.
They’ve since opened a brick-and-mortar boutique in the newly revitalized Film Exchange Building, becoming one of the first retail anchors in a growing district. They also launched the Central City Gift Exchange, a free holiday market that brought together over 20 local artists and five women-owned storefronts, drawing hundreds of visitors and citywide media attention.
MOMU also finds another way to express themselves through their ever-changing handmade window displays, which Yund describes as their “own art installations.” Patrons are drawn to these signature pieces every time they visit, and they can always expect something new.

Advice for Future Business Owners
Yund suggests using all the tools available in the state for budding business owners and having people who know what it takes to grow a business on your side.
“Utah has an incredible network of free resources for new entrepreneurs, and they can make all the difference when you’re just starting out. Working with a business advisor gave me tools, research methods, and confidence. You don’t have to have all the answers—just a willingness to ask questions and use the support that’s available.”
